Health & Safety training, tailored to your workplace

Training that sticks. works. fits your team. changes behaviour.

NZQA-certified courses prove competency was achieved on the day. What they don't guarantee is what your people remember six months later. Futurebright builds on that certified foundation with training designed around your documents, your equipment and your real workplace scenarios — so it holds.

Why tailored training

Certification proves it.
Tailoring makes it stick.

NZQA assessments show a specific level of competency was reached on completion day — that framework matters and isn't going anywhere. The open question is retention: how much of that knowledge is still guiding behaviour on-site three months on?

10% retained from reading alone
75% retained from hands-on practice
90% retained when trainees teach others

Futurebright targets that top end — a minimum 75% retention — by building your team's everyday work, real workplace scenarios and your own documentation directly into the training. Supervisors, first-line managers and in-house trainers get tailored training plus ongoing one-to-one mentoring, to turn theory into practice under the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015.

Built around your workplace

We use your documents, procedures and real scenarios to create programs that complement NZQA-assessed training, not duplicate it.

Flexible scheduling

No scheduling headaches. We work around your team, including timing sessions to suit shift workers and multi-site rosters.

Engaging, not death by PowerPoint

Always interactive and workshop-based, with skilled facilitation designed to maximise engagement and knowledge retention.

The benefits

What tailored training adds to your certification

01

Holistic skill development

NZQA assessments give you a standardised outcome. Tailored, non-assessment training goes further — a broader, more culturally inclusive exploration that builds a genuinely deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Poipoia te kākano kia puāwai

Nurture the seed and it will blossom
02

A supportive learning environment

A relaxed, lower-pressure setting reduces performance anxiety, freeing participants to focus on personal and professional growth — a complement to the more structured environment of NZQA assessment.

Kāhore taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini

My strength is not that of one, but the strength of many
03

Emphasis on practical application

Real-world application and hands-on experience complement theoretical knowledge, so people can put it to use in a meaningful way — fewer shortcuts, less reliance on handed-down habits, fewer unsafe acts.

I orea te tuatara ka patu ki waho

A problem is solved by continuing to find solutions
04

Valuing competency and capability

Tailored training prioritises what learners can actually do in real situations — a valuable complement for people who demonstrate skill through practical application rather than written assessment.

Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu

Adorn the bird with feathers and it will fly
05

Flexible, adaptable learning experiences

Time for deeper discussion, scenario-based learning and customisation to diverse learning styles and cultural contexts — all of which drives better engagement and dramatically improved retention.

Ka mate kāinga tahi, ka ora kāinga rua

There is more than one way to achieve an objective

Beyond health & safety

Because safety culture is a people problem too

Soft skills & team culture

Research from Harvard attributes 85% of job success to soft skills like communication, teamwork and adaptability — with only 15% coming down to technical ability. We build these into our training using LEGO® Serious Play® and Riders & Elephants' Emotional Culture Deck, both highly effective, well-received frameworks.

Ask about running LEGO® Serious Play® for your next planning, product design or problem-solving workshop.

Wellness & mental health

Deep experience across customer service, de-escalation, workplace bullying and communication, at every organisational level. Combined with Counselling Certificate training, that experience has grown into wellness and mental health programmes that organisations can put into practice.

Cost-effective, ongoing refreshers that keep teams vigilant, engaged — and human.

About Futurebright

Hi, I'm Heidi Hasselmann.

In one way or another, I've spent my entire career in Health & Safety — including more than 10 years as a trainer for several of New Zealand's leading H&S training organisations.

One of the most important things I've learned along the way: effective training is never one-size-fits-all. Too often, standardised training focuses on box-ticking rather than long-term, behaviour-changing value. That's where I make a real difference — by building training around your procedures, your documentation and your work scenarios.

Tailoring Health & Safety training to your organisation's unique requirements dramatically improves relevance, staff engagement and understanding — all of which has a positive impact on safety culture.
